About Us

The Magnolia Pumi Club of North Carolina is a non-profit club whose members are exhibitors, judges, trainers, breeders, and fanciers of breeds that are assigned to the AKC Herding Group.

We had our founding meeting via zoom on December 3, 2020. Since that time, we had applied to AKC to obtain our own AKC Club Status. We are pleased to inform you that AKC acted favorably on our request and AKC will approve our club to hold a Mentored Specialty Conformation show, under the Expanded Mentored Conformation policy rules approved by the AKC's Board of Directors. On June 4, 2023 MPCNC met all the criteria during our mentored specialty and AKC formally granted MPCNC an AKC Licensed Specialty Club.

We are very excited about this new venture for our club.

MPCNC is the first Regional Specialty Pumi club based in Charlotte, NC.

Having regional specialties and supporting Pumi entries in shows and performance trials gives members more opportunities at events to earn titles and championships at the same locations, and to meet more Pumi owners

We foster the Pumi breed in conformation, obedience, agility, tracking and herding events. Encouraging sportsmanlike events is one of our founding guidelines.

We meet 6 times annually, normally at a dog show in the Carolinas or via zoom. Visitors are welcome. Information for future meetings and events can be found on our calendar of events.

We welcome new members who are interested in the Pumi breed.

To convene, curate and cover the most influential Pumi Breeders, Owners and Sportsman who are driving change, transforming the Pumi Breed and making a significant impact on the dog world.

The Hungarian Pumi Club of America, Inc. was formed in 2005 to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Pumik (plural of Pumi), to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection, to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed, and to encourage sportsman-like competition at dog shows, companion events, and performance events.

What do you do with a Pumi?

HERDING

Pumik (the plural of Pumi) are adept and vigorous little herding dogs. The breed’s herding style is loose-eyed and close-working. They use barking and quick movement to control livestock. Pumik can do very well in herding trials.

They are also quite versatile, excelling in other dog sports like agility and flyball - thanks to their high intelligence, seemingly endless energy, and love of jum

AGILITY

The Pumi enjoys long walks, jogging, interactive play, and dog sports, such as herding, agility, obedience, and flyball.

CONFORMATION

The Pumi was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2016. They were invited to become a member of the Herding Group in July of that year.

The breed has come far since that day. Our breed has matured into a welcomed part of the Herding Group. Watching these dogs with their square bodies and quizzical expressions are a joy to watch. They are no longer just the new kid on the bloc
